Fats and Fertility 1 – Full Fat Dairy Foods Are Best!
Arriving at the dairy section of our supermarket we are met with an amazing array of milk, yogurt and cheeses. Not to mention what we see when we peek into the freezer compartment containing an array of mouth-watering ice cream, gelatin and other iced treats.
You are planning to have a family. What should you choose to increase your chances of conceiving and at the same time, eat what is best for your baby. Should it be the low fat dairy or is normal fat OK? We are always hearing that we shouldn’t eat too much fat so we tend to reach for the low fat. Is the right decision? The answer is definitely ‘no’.
One reason for not choosing low fat in products like ice-cream and yoghurt is that they usually have more sugar and it is important to reduce sugar intake. But there is a far more important reason for eating full fat dairy because full cream dairy improves your fertility and is probably good for your health in general.
A recent large scientific study performed a dietary analysis on a very large women over a period of 8 years. Of those who had attempted to become pregnant, 438 were unsuccessful. The researchers compared the details of intake of dairy foods in those who had become pregnant without difficulty and in those who suffered from infertility.
Women who ate low fat dairy: less was better. Eating low fat dairy about once each week had no effect on fertility but every gradual increase increased the risk of infertility. Women who ate low fat dairy twice each day or more often, were nearly twice as likely to be infertile.
Women who ate full cream (high fat) dairy: more was better. Eating full cream 2-4 times each week only gave a slight improvement in fertility but eating it more than once each day nearly halved the risk of being infertile.
Does the type of dairy food matter? Again the answer is yes. That is the study showed large effects for some types of dairy foods and only small effects for others. Whole milk was very beneficial – that is, it promoted fertility – but low fat milk was neutral. Cheeses of most types, by comparison, seemed to be good.
Does age matter? Eating full fat dairy seems to be beneficial at all ages but it is even more beneficial as you age. So if you are in your mid thirties and thinking of conceiving, change your milk to full cream and drink a glass every day. Add to that a few pieces of regular fat cheese and chances are you’ll soon be in the family way!

Foods That Promote Indigestion
While there are some foods that help , there are also other foods that only contribute to it. Knowing which foods cause this problem is perhaps even more important than knowing which foods help indigestion, because being aware of the foods that contribute to it means that it will be easier for you to avoid them or replace them with more suitable foods.
Here is a list of foods that are known to contribute towards producing indigestion.
It is important to avoid coffee, tea, sodas, and other caffeinated or carbonated drinks. Additionally, citrus fruits and juices are known to cause indigestion due to their acidity. Alcohol, tobacco, chocolate, peppermint, pickled foods, tomatoes, tomato-related products, and all fried or fatty foods can be linked to indigestion.
Though these foods are the most common culprits , everyone is different and thus might have a different food that triggers this problem within them. Listen to what your body is telling you-if you experience symptoms of indigestion after eating a certain food, then you should avoid that food in the future.
